Mersey Synod Meeting March 2025: living our faith beyond the walls of our churches

It was wonderful to have so many of us together from across our churches at the Mersey Synod Meeting. The theme of this Synod meeting continued Living Faith, which is the Synod theme for the next two years. Mersey Synod Moderator, Revd Geoff Felton, said: “A big thank you to everyone who has made this Synod happen, to our hosts at Wilmslow and to all those who have turned up and been a part of the meeting. I pray we may fix our eyes on Christ and live our faith beyond the walls of our churches.”

MERSEY SYNOD MINISTER'S PRAYER WALK 2025: JOIN THE MOD PLOD

Revd Geoff Felton, Moderator of the URC Mersey Synod, is planning a 39 mile prayer walk visiting 20 churches across the region during Holy Week this year (13-19th April 2025). The more detailed route and program are listed below and anyone from the Synod or community are welcome to join in for all or part of the days walking.

Paradoxes: Listening to the Voices of Young People

Representatives from different Christian denominations (above) recently came to the St Margaret Clitherow Centre for a networking event on Hearing the voices of Young People.

Steven Mitchell, URC Mersey Synod Children and Youth Development Officer, said: “It was a great event to bring youth workers and church leaders from Merseyside together, filled with great conversations. Hopefully it won't be the last and more ecumenical work can grow out of it."

Job Vacancy: Property Officer

The Mersey Synod of the United Reformed Church (URC) which is a charitable organisation, wishes to recruit a Property Officer, who will work alongside the 72 United Reformed Churches in the Merseyside Region, and have oversight of the properties owned by the Mersey Synod Trust. These are currently served by 16 Ministers; 16 Manses are occupied, and four Manses are let (plus two vacant).

Peasley Cross URC celebrates 50th anniversary

Peasley Cross URC recently celebrated 50 years of its building on the current site. The service was attended by the Lord Mayor of St Helens, Jeanette Banks, the Synod Moderator, Revd Geoff Felton, representatives of local churches and friends. They were welcomed by Helen Greener, the Church Secretary, and prayers were said by Margaret Worrall, to express joy and thanks to God.

Talking Faith event encourages Courage, Confidence & tackling Complicated Questions

This event with Charlie Styles, CEO and Speaker, and Clare Williams, Associate Speaker, at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics (OCCA), helped churches across the Synod to engage with the big questions of our life and faith.
