URC Mersey Synod support for ecumenical activities in 2024

Mersey Synod regularly supports ecumenical activities through donations. Here are our 2024 funding highlights:

Churches Together in the Merseyside Region (CTMR): Churches Together in Merseyside

The URC Mersey Synod funding is a contribution towards financing the CTMR Office, ecumenical events and the salary of the Ecumenical Co-ordinator (18 hours post).

This post holder facilitates bringing together church leaders, officers and management council members (trustees) which is key for ensuring CTMR complies with Charity commission regulations. They also organise events including the Week of Prayer for Christian unity for representatives from various denominations for networking purposes and working together more closely. Another key part is keeping the CTMR Young Adults Group connected to CTMR and liaising with CTMR Communications Officers from the various denominations. Having this network, for example, facilitated the sharing of statements from CTMR Church Leaders and then Faith representatives with messages for peace at the time of the riots during the summer.  An appointment was also made for the post of ‘Faith in the City - Lead Development Officer’ to facilitate events during 2025 when the Faith in the City report will mark its 40th anniversary.

Mission in The Economy (MitE) : liverpool — MitE Chaplaincy

MitE is a charity serving its local area in Merseyside. URC Mersey Synod’s contributions to MitE help to support the costs of running the chaplaincy projects. MitE has been providing chaplaincy to the retailers and shoppers of Liverpool city centre for many years. Their chaplains come alongside people and always have time for a chat and support. Another example includes how MitE has provided chaplaincy to Liverpool John Lennon Airport since 2003. The Chaplain provides pastoral, humanitarian, and spiritual support for passengers, staff and visitors of all faiths and none. MitE also provides chaplains to Merseyside Police, Skelmersdale, St Helens and Warrington retail centres, and YMCA St Helens and Liverpool.
