Trinity United Reformed Church Wigan Wedding Celebration
Trinity URC Wigan was delighted to hold its first same sex marriage service for two of its members - Malcolm and Chris Garforth-Fife.
Revd Tim Meadows, the Moderator Elect of the General Assembly, conducted a beautiful service and Café Jam led the music before and during the ceremony. Malcolm played one of the hymns with Café Jam, which he wrote the tune for. He also sang a song especially for Chris.
Malcolm Garforth-Fife, who is an active retired URC Minister living in Mersey Synod said: “We were delighted to be married in Trinity URC Wigan who are an inclusive and welcoming church. We had an amazing day and are very happy in our married life.”
Chris Garforth-Fife was formerly a member of Heckmondwike URC in the Yorkshire Synod.
In 2016, the United Reformed Church became the largest Christian organisation in Britain to offer same-sex weddings in its churches. Some of the URC Mersey Synod churches are also part of the Open Table Network , which started in Liverpool in 2008. This is a growing partnership of communities across England & Wales which welcome and affirm people who are: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, & Asexual (LGBTQIA).
