Community, Cake and Motorcycles meet at St Andrew's URC for Isle of Man TT 2023

St Andrew's URC in Douglas has been fuelling the crowds of the 2023 Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) with cake, sandwiches and a community welcome from the church.

“The position of our church near the TT grandstand, means we are heavily involved with the thousands of people who visit the island during both the T.T. festival in June and the Festival of Motorcycling in August,” said Revd Dawn Mather. “It brings together a great sense of community. We received over 1,000 messages of thanks via FaceBook in 2022 - for the fresh food, our warm welcome, and also the chance to come through and sit in the peace of the church.”

Homebaked goods from church members and volunteers at the event provided visitors to the church in June with over 1,500 freshly filled baps, over 1,500 potions of home made cake, and over 3,250 hot drinks! There were also many cans of pop, bottles of water, chocolate bars and bags of crisps.  The bakers are now busy for the August event.

The Isle of Man TT or Tourist Trophy races are an annual motorcycle racing event run on the Isle of Man in May/June of most years since its inaugural race in 1907.

There are two URC congregations on the Isle-of-Man, sharing our minister Revd. Dawn Mather. St Andrew's is in Douglas, and in Ramsey there is a joint URC/Methodist congregation who currently meet in St Paul's Church Hall, which is part of St Paul's Anglican parish Church.
