A Blooming Success: St John's Causeway Community Garden Gains Award as the URC celebrates 25 years of Community Project Awards

St John’s URC Warrington were awarded a Community Project Award for their Causeway Community Garden. The Garden is open to all, as an inclusive, welcoming space where church members, friends and the local and wider community come to care for the garden, as well as each other.

At its 2023 General Assembly, the URC celebrated 25 years of its Community Project Awards and Causeway Community Garden at St John’s URC was listed as one of the winners.

The awards recognise outstanding community projects taking place in churches – projects which demonstrate the mission of the Church by reaching out in many different ways to the local communities which they serve.

St John's Causeway Community Garden has been a key part of the Church's mission over the past four years.

Through its prayers, actions, volunteers, church members and local community, it has worked together to nurture and transform the grounds around the Church into a thriving garden space for the community, church family and wildlife. Its mission is now leading the church to develop the garden further to celebrate its mission and faith through the community garden and as a support to its project aims and objectives.

Tracey McNaboe, Community Engagement & Outreach Worker, Elmwood Avenue & St John's United Reformed Churches, Warrington said: “The most amazing part of our garden is the people who come and join us from the church and the community. We have such a diverse group and it also offers a quiet space for well-being and mindfulness. Overall, after starting as a small green space, it’s a blooming success!”
