Welcoming Wilmslow URC to Mersey Synod
On Sunday 11th August, Mersey Synod and North Western Synod came together for a special service as Wilmslow URC officially moved Synods into Mersey. The service was marked by thanksgiving for the past and a feeling of hope as the church looked forward to its new future with Mersey Synod.
These services are always a little strange as there is a sense of letting go by the sending Synod and a sense of welcoming from the receiving Synod. Wilmslow URC has played an active part in the life of North Western Synod and they have contributed to its life over the years.
In Wilmslow’s statement to the meeting, Steve Wood, the Secretary of Wilmslow URC, said one of the reasons for the move was after reviewing its mission, the Church had recognised it felt more in step with the wider life of Cheshire than with North Manchester and Cumbria. We give thanks for North Western Synod and the partnership we have with them through the Northerly Synod meetings.
Revd Geoff Felton, Moderator of Mersey Synod.
