Snapshots Holiday Club at Allerton URC shares the message of God’s love

‘Snapshots’ Holiday Club, which took place at Allerton URC this summer using a Synod Mission Grant, proved to be a successful demonstration of church love at its best, with so many people giving their time freely to make it happen and doing so with such goodwill. Fifty children took part across the week.

The theme of ‘Snapshots’ was based on the URC resource of that name (https://urc.org.uk/your-faith/children-young-people/children-youth-work/holiday-club-materials/) , and each day there was a new theme led by an ‘snapshot’ (extract) from the Bible. The theme was delivered through a host of fun activities from Bible verses, warm-ups, games, stories, drama, crafts, singing, dance and prayer.

Eira Kelly, Jenny Makepeace and Fiona Legdon, Church Elders and Junior Worship Leadersat Allerton United Reformed Church said:

“What a privilege to be part of such a fantastic team of people, pulling together to get through the week with lots of laughter and love. Not only was the message of God’s love presented throughout the week, but God’s presence also was in the midst of it all. The generous grant from Synod provided a wealth of resources and food. The holiday club is an opportunity to carry out outreach work, a time when we hope to spread a little of God’s love in the community.”

All the feedback received showed that the children and their families really appreciated the week. One parent reiterated her thanks in an email:

“Dear Club Organisers,

I wanted to write and express my thanks for all the hard work the team have given hosting the holiday club. My daughter has really enjoyed it and the activities were really good and right up her street. We really appreciate the club as childcare is so expensive especially in the current climate. Give the team a huge pat on the back and massive thanks.”

Synod Mission Funds

The Synod has set aside £75,000 a year and churches can apply for a large grant of up to £25,000 a project or, using the small grant scheme, for up to £2,500 as many times as required.  There are even options for smaller amounts of around £100. Grants are for mission projects, not building projects.  Grants and Funding — URC Mersey (urcmerseysynod.org.uk)
