Ormskirk Street URC run half term fun club with St Helens network of churches
Volunteers from the St Helens URC network of churches came together on Tuesday 29th October to run a half term fun day for primary age children. Based at Ormskirk Street URC and led by Steven Mitchell, Synod Children and Youth Development Officer (CYDO), children and adults had a fun packed day.
Based on the URC holiday club material, ‘Sparks and Stories’, the children enjoyed exercise warm ups, short story videos, crafts, prayer activities, parachute games, and gathering round the ‘campfire’ for songs and chat. Asked what they enjoyed the most, children’s replies ranged from t-shirt painting, and making light spinners, to hot dog lunch and singing the campfire song.
“This was our first venture into running a kids holiday activity day and it seemed to go down very well,” said Revd Cath Atkinson, Minister of Ormskirk Street, Haresfinch and Rainford United Reformed Churches in St Helens. “It was great that we had volunteers from a number of our churches coming together to make it all happen.”
Steven Mitchell, Mersey Synod CYDO, commented: "It was great to be a part of this new venture by the St Helen’s churches. The volunteers worked so hard and you could see how much the children enjoyed the day."
Ormskirk Street URC is located to St Helen’s town centre and seeks to offer quality worship of a traditional kind each Sunday morning. The mission statement announces: “We are here to worship God and to bring others into a relationship with Jesus Christ, with the help of the Holy Spirit.” Learn more about Ormskirk Street URC:
