Causeway Community Garden grows with RHS Award and Co-op Community Funding
St John's URC Warrington’s Causeway Community Garden has gained another Level 5 Outstanding Award Certificate from the RHS. Part of the Northwest in Bloom It’s Your Neighbourhood scheme, the awards are for bringing members local communities together to make a positive change. This year, the Garden also received two grant payments from the Co-op Local Community Fund through the customers’ loyalty cards scheme.
Tracey McNaboe, Church and Community Engagement Officer, commented:
“We’ve had another amazing garden year leading to this Award and we have seen new people coming along who have been referred to us from community partnerships. The theme for this 60th anniversary milestone year for RHS Britain In Bloom year has all been about ‘friendship’. This has truly been reflected through all that the garden group have achieved together again this year, and the lasting and new friendships formed.
“We are also delighted to confirm that our Causeway Community Garden received a total of £2,190.72, thanks to Co-op members following the submission of a grant application. With the funding so far, we have hired the digger and undertook all the work to create the new composting area.
“With the new funding we are looking to buy a shredder to help with the garden clearing and making the most of being able to recycle as much garden material through the composting as we can. We will also have funds left over for next year.”
“We had a lovely August day for the visit from the judges Bernard and Heather (who will be our judge next year). Bernard was very impressed with what we have been doing and we also had one of our young gardeners Laurie on hand to talk about the garden as well as other members of the garden group. Bernard was also impressed with all the connections the garden has made.
The Causeway Community Garden also helped St John’s URC to gain their Silver Award in the Arocha Eco Church Scheme: Silver Double for Warrington Pastorate in Arocha Eco Church Scheme — URC Mersey
